Re: Mini vs Porsche
Dear Jim,Imagine our surprise to discover our former employee, now the head of Mini, has challenged us to a head-to-head race. As you surely know, Porsche has a long history of racing success, with more than 28,000 wins over the last 60 years. In our early days, we pitted ourselves against the giants, so we've been in your shoes.
But as you also know, Porsche doesn't race for fame, stunts or publicity. We race to challenge ourselves; we race to push sports car technology; we race to translate every win on the track to our cars on the road. If you need a reminder of our intent, please take a look at this short video: http://tinyurl.com/37xdjqx
While your challenge seems like a fun and lighthearted campaign, we'll stick to racing the way we have over the decades. We welcome you at Sebring, Le Mans, Daytona or any other sanctioned race where there is more at stake than T-shirts and valet parking spaces. We also invite you to any of the thousands of tracks around the world where Porsche owners compete each weekend.
Good luck with your race at Road Atlanta on June 21; we hope you enjoy the day.
Sincerely,
Detlev Von Platen President and CEO, Porsche Cars North America
Re: Mini vs Porsche
Nice answer by Porsche.
Re: Mini vs Porsche
davew (cincy):Not sure if you've seen this, but its a great stunt!
Here's the real thing: tuned Mini Cooper S vs. Techart Cayman and fast girl behind the wheels of both cars - maybe not a scientific testdrive but big fun to watch

public roads: Porsche 987 S Seal/Cocoa, toll road : Porsche 997 GT3 Arctic/Black
Re: Mini vs Porsche
Well done, Detlev!!
That's one of my all-time favorite videos!!
Re: Mini vs Porsche
Great answer, left the other guy looking like a clown

Re: Mini vs Porsche
Haha.... I like the Mini clown but I even more like the answer of Porsche! Well done Detlef
Re: Mini vs Porsche
He's baaack...
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IhYmv0yySaY&feature=related
His first video kinda reminded me of the "will it blend?" guy.
Now he's beginning to sound like a needy stalker, begging for a prom date, who won't take no for an answer: sorry, but you're just not my type. Please stop calling me...
"I'll send you a new e-vite" (smiles)
What, the old one doesn't work anymore?
Re: Mini vs Porsche
Seems to become a never ending story
Come on, guys - one of our US members has to do the job next Monday

Re: Mini vs Porsche
At least the FOD video is funny. I like the scene with the MINI on top of the ridge, laying on the horn.
What's with the door seams (gaps) on the B&W picture??
At least this ad campaign shows that the 911 is still THE performance benchmark in the public eye...

The idiot from Mini US has changed mi view of the company = lame. They hype up they want to race Porsche at a a track, they get ignored like the class clown, they organise the race by themselves, they build an "autocross" track instead next to the actual track to favor the Mini... and the still loose by 2 seconds
Whats next? Huyndai beating them as well?

Spyderidol:
Maybe you find a Smiley in your collection showing one who spanks himself - would be the appropriate one for the Mini management

Re: Mini vs Porsche
This is close as I can get!
Re: Mini vs Porsche
Actually - I managed to get hold a picture of a senior manager at Mini:

You have to wonder what BMW thinks of that "class act"?
That guy had probably got fired from Porsche to make him want to pull that stunt.
This should get him fired from Mini as well for tarnishing the company's image.

Re: Mini vs Porsche
I think they got the wrong information on Porsche current performance specs. It seems they watched the "Ferdinand GT3RS" video, and thought they had it in the bag.
This time next year: "Hello, I'm Jim McDowell, and I'm the head of Kia Rio in the United States. Now some of you may know that I worked for MINI for two years; and MINI builds a fine automobile..." (shirt reads "it likes a good time as much as you do.")
Re: Mini vs Porsche
@fritz: I think the stunt was about the 38.000$/sec message
Re: Mini vs Porsche
This is so funny!
Especially we are talking about the same key group. Many of us own a Porsche and a Mini. Many Mini drivers are young and saying they want to buy a Porsche when they are older (and richer).
I like the FOD video in the 80-Style. I also like the offer of Hyundai. What I didn't like was the race, boring and the most stupid, childish round course ever.
But - kind of interesting, that that clown shut up now!
